Development of genomic markers of exposure using the freshwater snail Planorbella pilsbryi

Funding period: 2020-2024
Lead: Eve Gilroy
Total GRDI funding: $261,000

Freshwater gastropods are an important and diverse component of aquatic ecosystems. They are amongst the most endangered taxa threatened by human activities. This project aims to develop genomic markers for the hermaphroditic freshwater snail Planorbella pilsbryi (Planorbidae), to increase knowledge on its life cycle and reproduction, and to assess the effects of climate change and contamination. These multi-omic markers will be used further in support of research under various government initiatives and priorities.
